Bidvest Wits' Phumlani Ntshangase is still haunted by the errors he made in a game against Mamelodi Sundowns, and would consider a fresh start at a new club in a bid to revive his career.
Ntshangase has not played since his poor showing contributed to the Students' 2-0 league loss to eventual champions Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on April 14.
According to a source close to Ntshangase, the 23-year-old has submitted a transfer request to Wits' management.
Ntshangase admits his confidence has taken a knock.
"To be honest I am still hurt by the incident," the Wits development product told KickOff.com.
"Remember it had been a while since I last played a competitive game and coming to a big game against Sundowns was always going to be difficult.
"That game does not only demand physical but also mental fitness.
"I was thrown in the deep end and the mistakes look like it has cost me a chance to recover and get another chance to play and get my confidence back.
"As I am speaking to you I am watching the Champions League match [Roma vs Liverpool last night]. I see players committing mistakes but still not putting their heads down because there is a kind of motivation in the team. They still come back and perform. My confidence is down at the moment," he reiterated.
The KwaZulu-Natal-born midfielder says he has not spoken to Clever Boys coach Gavin Hunt about his mistakes against the Brazilians.
"However, I don't want to believe that's a problem because the coach didn't speak to me before the game and also didn't speak to me after the game.
"I am not happy. I want to play football in the PSL next season. If possible I can go somewhere I will play football and get game- time. I want to regain the same form I had in my first season in the PSL. I want to play regularly and fight for my place in Bafana Bafana."
