Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi is confident he can guide Maccabi FC to the National First Division after coaching the side to ABC Motsepe League honours on the last day of the season.
JDR Stars enjoyed a two-point lead at the summit heading into the final round of fixtures in the Gauteng stream of the third tier. However, they lost 2-1 to Pretoria Callies as Tsotetsi's charges thumped Dube Continental 3-0 to earn a spot in the promotional play-offs.
Tsotetsi, who also represented Bloemfontein Celtic and Jomo Cosmos in his playing days, feels their last-gasp exploits illustrates a fighting spirit.
“It is a clear indication of character that was displayed by the boys,” Tsotetsi told SAFA Media.
“Winning the league on the very last day of the season shows how competitive the league has become and I am very proud that my boys and the technical team remained focus and did not lose hope even though JDR had an advantage.”
The 35-year-old added: “Looking at the fact that we have been there before, we know what it takes to win the play-offs. It is very difficult but I believe we have learnt from last year’s mistakes and by rectifying them and the fact that we have new players, we can definitely put up a good showing.”
