Bafana Bafana may have lost out on playing giants Argentina in a friendly, but South Africa could still yet line up a high-profile opponent for later this year.
Bafana coach Stuart Baxter last week confirmed that the intended match with Lionel Messi and company has been canned.
However, SAFA president Danny Jordaan has indicated negotiations are underway to bring another big team to our shores for the annual Nelson Mandela Challenge.
"We have an agreement with the Spanish La Liga; we have discussed with them how they can participate and contribute in making this a special year for the centenary celebration of Nelson Mandela," Jordaan exclusively told the latest edition of KICK OFF Magazine.
"Of course I'm not going to disclose any further details, but they are very excited about the honour and the opportunity to participate in the programme.
"We are also engaging FIFA to see what contribution they can make to make this year a very special year.
"Due to the fact that this is a World Cup year, these things will of course have to wait until the end of the World Cup in Russia."
