First Division side African Warriors have released half a dozen players, including former Orlando Pirates reject Jorry Merahe as the reality of missing out on a promotional play-offs spot continues to sink in.
Merahe, who made a name for himself at Bloemfontein Celtic before moving to Pirates where his career wilted, joined Warriors at the beginning of the year after a protracted battle to get a new club since being shown the door by the Bucs in June last year. Warriors have also shown the door to former youth international Thiyekile ‘Ace’ Gulwa in a mass clear out that has also seen Molefi Loape, Tshepo Gumede, Zakia Makoanyane, and Ernest ‘General’ Monareng departing. “We have decided against renewing the contracts of these players. Their deals are up and we are giving them their clearances as their services are no longer needed at the club. “We are still making further review of the situation at the club which could result in further developments,” club boss Jabu Khumalo tells KickOff.com. While the club has been shown the six players the door they have strengthened their management staff by bringing in former Free State Stars PRO Lebohang Maketa. Maketa will serve as a general manager at Warriors after having spent four months at Sharpeville Technical College where he was a marketing manager. “Maketa’s appointment is with immediate effect,” says Khumalo.
