Maritzburg United midfielder Fortune Makaringe says they knew they would be facing a World class team in Mamelodi Sundowns and had to put on a good show for their supporters.

Maritzburg came from a goal down to beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals for a place in the final.

“I think its all credit to the team. We knew we were going to play a World class team, and without a doubt Sundowns is a World class team," Makaringe told SuperSport TV.

“We had to come out here and do it for the people that came here to support us.

The Team of Choice dusted themselves off after conceding within a minute of the game, and Makaringe believes that only strengthened their confidence than diminish it.

“We were more determined to win this game. I mean, we have never played a cup final since we got in the PSL. So we knew the purpose of this team is always better than the individual.

“Even before because it was always encouraging to believe in our abilities. So I think it paid off for us."
