Siyabonga Ngezana concedes Kaizer Chiefs' Absa Premiership disappointment

Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana has admitted that the team has failed the supporters with the quality of their performances this season.

The Chiefs squad have come under scrutiny as they are now guaranteed to reach the three-year mark since the day they last lifted a trophy.

The club have since promised a ‘complete overhaul’ will take place during the upcoming off-season break, with coaching and playing personnel expected to be reshuffled.

However, there lies a glimmer of hope during coach Steve Komphela’s reign, with Amakhosi just two matches away from Nedbank Cup glory.

Regardless, though, of whether they go on to reclaim the cup they last won back in 2013, supporters are fed up with the inconsistent displays they have witnessed in the past three seasons.

Having been mathematically ruled out of the league title race with three games to spare, Ngezana was outright in his assessment of their efforts this season, as he admitted they have let the supporters down with their 12 draws in 27 games.

“They [supporters] will always cry about inconsistency, the way we’re performing and us needing to change or whatsoever, but as professionals we know our job and what needs to be done on the field,” the 20-year-old defended.

“Somewhere, somehow, I think we failed. You can check even in the Absa Premiership, we were not that consistent. There were points we dropped where we could’ve done better.

“The draws were many and, if you can turn those into three-pointers, I think we could have gone far on the log. But there is room for improvement for next season.”

Amakhosi will look to overcome a stern test against Free State Stars in their semi-final clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening (20h15), as they look to reach their first cup final since December 2015.
