Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has come to the defence of much-maligned midfielder Paul Pogba, who was slated by club legend Paul Scholes this weekend.
Pogba, 25, struggled to make an impact in the 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich at Old Trafford on Sunday, which awarded rivals Manchester City the Premier League title.
And after the game, Scholes branded Pogba's performance as 'disrespectful' towards Mourinho, based on the alleged lack of effort he displayed against the Baggies.
But the club-record signing responded in emphatic fashion with a man of the match display in the 2-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth last-night, dominating the midfield and providing a scintillating assist for Romelu Lukaku's second-half strike.
Mourinho has since defended the France international, who he's reported to have fallen out with, and ignored the sentiments of Scholes via BT Sports.
"I don't agree. I agree that it wasn't a good performance at all [against West Brom]; with that, I agree," he said, as quoted by ESPN FC.
The Portuguese tactician went on to lavish praise on the 'phenomenal' midfielder in the post-match interview; "Top performance. Top performance. Obviously, the performance against City was special, coming with two goals.
"But this performance was a very similar level. So top performance. He can do it."
