Tefu Mashamaite is yet to hear if SuperSport United will keep him

SuperSport United defender Tefu Mashamaite is yet to receive communication from management regarding his future, but believes he still has a lot to offer.

The 33-year-old, whose two-year contract with the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup finalists expires at the end of the season, has been struggling with an ankle injury that has sidelined him since December. He is unsure if Matsatsantsa will renew his deal.

“It’s my final season now. Nobody has said anything, but I am someone who lives in the present. I don’t want to be projecting myself into the future. I just want to take care of what I can take care of. The future takes care of itself,” he tells

“I know when I put my mind [to it] I still have a lot to offer. I still have about three seasons to offer. I am confident about that.”

Mashamaite was in training this morning and is hoping to get an opportunity to feature before the season comes to an end.

He says he would not have been back in training had he taken the club’s advice to go for an operation on his ankle.

“I got injured last year in December, an ankle injury. The team wanted me to do an operation, but I opted for the conservative way of recovering and it turned out to be the best way because I got back earlier than expected. With an operation I was going to be out for the rest of the season, but here I am now.

“I am fully fit. I have been in the 18-man squad for the past three games, so I am just waiting for my chance. It was frustrating [getting injured], because I felt like I was slowly making progress. I played in the Confed Cup and I was playing in some league games, but then boom I got injured. But it’s part of football and there’s nothing I can do about it. I am just happy that I recovered quickly. Hopefully before the season ends I will be able to get a run. I have been working hard.”
