Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says winning the Premier League important than the UEFA Champions League

Pep Guardiola says it would mean more to him to win the Premier League title than lift the UEFA Champions League trophy.

The Citizens saw their European Cup campaign come to a screeching halt at the quarter-finals after going down to Liverpool over both legs.

However, City went some way to make amends for their continental shortcomings as they thrashed Tottenham 3-1 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to leave themselves one win from securing the English top-flight title.

Speaking after the win, Guardiola said: "If you have now 87 points, five games left, it's because we did outstanding when people said it was a big failure what happened last week," Guardiola said.

"They don't understand absolutely anything about football.

"The Champions League is seven games, you can win the Champions League but the league is every three days in the same month.

"I'm sorry but it's much more important what these guys have done the whole season."
