Atletico Madrid forward Antoinne Griezmann in fitness race for Gunners clash

Posted: 15 April 2018 Time: 09:00

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is in a race for fitness ahead of the Europa League semi-final first leg against Arsenal after suffering a hamstring strain in midweek.

The Spain international needed to come off in the second-half of Thursday's 1-0 loss to Sporting CP after pulling up with injury, although Atletico were still able to hold on for the result as they progress 2-1 on aggregate.

The Madrid giants confirmed this weekend that Griezmann had suffered a pull to his hamstring, but would not put a timeframe on his expected recovery.

The news means Griezmann has less than two weeks to recover before Atletico make the trip to the Emirates Stadium to face the Gunners in the first-leg of the Europa League semi-finals.

The Spaniard is, at least, expected to miss Sunday's LaLiga visit of Levant, while the club still have another two league matches before heading to north London on April 26.
