Cape Town City's Benni McCarthy buoyed by Teko Modise, Matthew Rusike boost for SuperSport clash

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has confirmed that veteran attacker Teko Modise and striker Matthew Rusike will be back when his side hosts SuperSport United on Saturday at Athlone Stadium.

Modise, who has scored one league goal in 16 league appearances, sustained a knock in a man-of-the-match display against his former club Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup on March 14 in Cape Town.

Since then Modise, one of the PSL's best ball-playing footballers of the past decade, has missed the Citizens' last four matches which have failed to yield a win.

Rusike, who scored on his debut in February when McCarthy's team defeated Bidvest Wits in the first round of the Nedbank Cup, last featured against Wits in the league in February, and has missed the last eight matches in all competitions.

McCarthy's men dug deep to get a point against Maritzburg United last Saturday at Harry Gwala Stadium after missing numerous chances.

The Bafana Bafana legend hopes Rusike in particular can ease their goal scoring problems going forward.

"The big positive for me is that I'm getting Teko Modise back, I'm getting Matthew Rusike back. So ja for me that is the key element," McCarthy said.

"So I'm looking forward next week come SuperSport that I'm going to have those two players. More so Matthew Rusike, who is hungry. He came here and he was the answer for our goals and then he got injured at the wrong time. So now he suffered a little setback but now he'll come back.

"Hopefully he can solve the problem that we have. We are creating the chances but we don't have a hungry striker who wants to score more than 10-15 goals in the season."
