South African midfielder Nhlanhla Vilakazi grateful to Free State Stars ahead of switch to PSL rivals AmaZulu

Free State Stars central midfielder Nhlanhla Vilakazi has vowed to give his all to the club before switching allegiance to AmaZulu at the end of the season.

READ: Eymael bemoans Masehe absence last month confirmed Vilakazi will join Usuthu when his contract with Stars expires in June.

“I can say there were so many things involved [in deciding to sign for AmaZulu], but for now I’d like to focus on the job at hand,” Vilakazi tells this website.

“As you still know I’m still a player of Free State Stars and the other things I’ll take care of them at the beginning of next season.

“On my reason of why I’m leaving, I think they know and I also know it. We were communicating all along but it happened that we didn’t agree on everything.”

Vilakazi, however, remains grateful to Ea Lla Koto for helping him revive his career after falling out of favour at Maritzburg United in 2015/16, having helped the Team of Choice record their first top-eight finish under Steve Komphela the season before.

Vilakazi and Maritzburg failed to agree terms on a new deal and he was subsequently snapped up by Stars.

“I’m very thankful to them for being the club’s vice-captain and I feel hurt that I’ll be leaving the club,” he adds.

“But you know in football there are decisions you have to make, but I want to thank them for everything and the opportunity.

“What I can do in return is I promise from my side that I’ll give it my all since I’m still here at the club.”

The 32-year-old has featured in 74 games in all competitions for the Bethlehem-based outfit with a return of three goals.
