Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere says although they are still in danger after clinching a long-awaited Absa Premiership win on Saturday it is still possible to survive relegation.

Goals from Gerald Phiri jnr and Bongi Ntuli helped Dikwena register a 2-0 victory at home against Polokwane City and raise their points tally to 21 with only four matches left to play.

The result breaks a 10-game winless streak in the league for the Phokeng-based outfit, although they remain at the bottom of the table.

"It's a confidence booster and we can't relax now because we are still in the danger zone," Mere tells

The former Mamelodi Sundowns right-back admits that the three points gained against Rise and Shine has given them hope of at least reaching the play-offs.

"Most definitely, we can't give up now. We believe we can still survive this battle and it would be stupid to even think we don't have a chance."

Mere says the only thing they did differently on Saturday compared to the last 10 games was utilise their chances.

"We just buried our chances which has been our biggest downfall this season."

Stars, who next visit Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium this Saturday, are three points behind closest side Ajax Cape Town, who have a game in hand.

SuperSport United are hovering above the drop zone with 27 points from 25 fixtures.
