Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne decribes frosty relationship with Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

Manchester City star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne revealed how life was like under the management of Jose Mourinho during his ill-fated spell at Chelsea.

De Bruyne, 26, is on course to secure his first Premier League title this weekend in the Manchester Derby at the Etihad and is one of the strong favourites to walk away with the PFA Player of the Year award.

The Belgium international has been a revelation under the City head coach Pep Guardiola but struggled under Mourinho during his time with the Blues before leaving for the German Bundesliga.

Under Guardiola this season, he's has scored 11 goals and registered 20 assists in 45 games from a deep-lying playmaker role, but under Mourinho, he was utilised a right-midfielder, making only two starts in six months in the 2013/14 season.

"I would say distant," De Bruyne described his relationship with the Red Devils manager, as quoted by BBC Football.

"I'm not really somebody who speaks a lot with coaches if a coach wants to speak with you, then you just you do it. He is the boss, you can be good with each other but still there's a distance between a coach and a player.

"I only spoke with him twice -- when I wanted to leave to [Borussia] Dortmund at the beginning of the summer and the second meeting I just said for me it's better to go, I want to play football."
