Diego Costa lauded as an 'animal' after UEFA Europa League display with Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been lauded as an 'animal' since his return from Premier League side Chelsea and was singled out for special praise after an impressive performance on Thursday evening.

Costa registered an assist for Koke's first-minute goal that set the tone for the 2-0 victory in the first leg UEFA Europa League quarter-final over Sporting Lisbon at the Wanda Metropolitano.

With six goals and as many assists in 16 games, the Spain international who missed six months of the season has yet to reach top form since his acrimonious exit from Premier League side Chelsea - who've since struggled to replace the Spain international's influence in attack.

But his manager Diego Simeone lauded his sublime work-rate in the victory over the Portuguese giants.

"Since Costa came back that's the best match he's played," the coach said to reporters, as quoted by Marca.

"He's been an animal, he ran, he participated in the goals, he pushed hard and he maintained his discipline throughout the game."
