Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic has explained why midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni has not been playing.
Sangweni joined the Buccaneers at the beginning of the season from Chippa United with high expectations, but has struggled to break into the starting line-up.
He has only managed to make three appearances up to this point, as Micho prefers playing Musa Nyatama and recently signed Xola Mlambo in the middle of the park.
Competition for places is tough in the midfield, with the likes of Mpho Makola and Issa Sarr also looking to get into the side.
"When I look at everything I need to tell you that [when] he started to play he had a period of injuries," Micho explains.
"He came back once more he got injury. During the international break he was sick and he joined us for four days before we played. You can check with him, he was sick."
Micho added that the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder is still part of his plans, but he has to work on his fitness before he can be considered for selection.
"It is really very unfortunate, it is not because of intention. I have a highest degree for everyone and to his human and football qualities.
"He started to play then he got injured again he was about to play he got injured and struggling to regain. He is knocking. He is there."
