Rodney Ramagalela breaks scoring drought to inspire Polokwane City to victory

Posted: 5 April 2018 Time: 13:30

Patience finally paid off for Polokwane City striker Rodney Ramagalela, who scored the winner in his side’s 1-0 victory over struggling SuperSport United last night.

Ramagalela scored nine goals in the first half of the season, but the goals have dried up in the second period, netting just two times in 2018, including the goal last night which took his tally in the league to 11.

He headed home from a corner kick to secure all three points for Rise and Shine, as coach Bernard Molekwa celebrated only the second victory at home this season and their first at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“He’s a good player and he has been working hard. Remember he took so long to score and I told him that he should be patient, he will get a goal. Most of the time the goals he scores for us are important,” Molekwa said after the game.

“As a leader, he rescued us and managed to score that solitary goal and it gave us three points.”

City, who are now on 30 points, moved up to 11th on the standings and are hoping to continue where they left off when they take on Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday (20h15).

The victory over Matsatsantsa is exactly what they needed heading into the weekend’s fixtures, although Molekwa is concerned about the chances they are wasting upfront.

“It’s a good feeling [to win] because we have been looking for these three points for a long time, especially at home. It’s our first win at home and I hope we will also get maximum points in our next game,” the coach said.

“We wanted that early goal, we got it. We wanted a second goal in the second half, but unfortunately it did not come and I believe we could have done better because we created so many chances, especially when they were one man down. Goals are important because this is a crunch time whereby goal difference will come in. That is something I am going to make my players aware of. We can build from this game.
