Relegation-threatened Platinum Stars played to a goalless draw with Baroka in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
Rock-bottom Stars, who were still without the services of coach Roger De Sa following his two-match ban, were looking to close the gap to the playoff spot following Ajax Cape Town’s loss to AmaZulu on Tuesday.
They got off on a solid footing, with Gerald Phiri Junior firing a shot just over the bar in the opening 12 minutes.
The teen sensation went close again minutes later with another shot from range, but was still unable to test Ayanda Dlamini.
Dikwena looked promising every time they ventured forward and launched an attack, but the final ball in the last third was their undoing.
It was the same scenario in the second half, with chances falling from all angles on both sides though the killer instinct was not forthcoming.
Sibusiso Msomi was looking to try and bring about a change to the dynamics but he was unable to do so after seeing his shot going wide of goal.
Baroka came into their own with a few half-chances but were unable to threaten goal efficiently, except for Siphiwe Mlillo producing a goal-line clearance.
A few chances came by at both ends in the closing stages, but neither of them were able to break through as they settle for a point apiece.
