Free State Stars defender Patrick Phungwayo says it will be easy to overcome a Kaizer Chiefs side that still believes their Absa Premiership title race is not over.
Ea Lla Koto host Amakhosi at Goble Park this evening (19h30), which is a dress rehearsal for their upcoming Nedbank Cup semi final.
Chiefs are in fifth place on the standings, a place below Stars, but they still believe it’s not over in the title race until the fat lady sings. They will be looking for all three points in Bethlehem tonight, against a Stars side capable of beating anybody in the league.
"It’s not easy playing against Chiefs, especially now that they are also gunning for the league," Phungwayo tells KickOff.com.
"The head coach [Steve Komphela] of Kaizer Chiefs said they are gunning for the league, so it will be not an easy game.”
In their last league match Stars lost 1-0 on the road to Chippa United, while Amakhosi played to a goalless draw with AmaZulu at home.
"We come from a defeat in our last league game against Chippa. Our coach [Luc Eymael] told us to focus in order for us to finish in the top eight.
Phungwayo says both teams will not be thinking about the Nedbank Cup final.
"They can't look beyond Wednesday [tonight], which is the same for us. Right now it's all about the next few games before the semi final.
“Chiefs have been consistent in how they play. We've studied them, we've watched their games and it doesn't change much. We'll see who wants it the most at the end of the day."
