Mwape Musonda is confident Black Leopards will qualify for the play-offs

National First Division top scorer Mwape Musonda does not want to go through the pain of qualifying for the play-offs and not winning promotion to the PSL again.

Lidoda Duvha, who face Stellenbosch FC in Thohoyandou on Sunday, missed out on promotion via the play-offs last season.

They moved into second place after their 2-1 victory over Real Kings last weekend, a big result away from home. Leopards and Kings are both on 38 points, but Lidoda have a superior goal difference.

A victory over Stellenbosch will enhance their chances of finishing in one of the two play-offs spots that are on offer, but it would mean nothing to qualify for the mini-league tournament if they do not go onto win promotion.

“This one is just as important to be won because at least when we win we will cement our second position on the log," said Musonda, who has scored 13 times this season.

"Highlands Park are 15 points ahead of us and they need four points from six games to win the league, so in as much as it looks done and dusted, anything can still happen. But if we don't make it via automatic promotion, then we have a chance to make it through the play-offs.

“If we go there and fail again it means nothing, so I think this season we have a chance. It’s annoying to go to the play-offs and come back to the NFD. This is our chance where we have to put everything and we have to correct all the mistakes that we have done in the past four seasons and win it through play offs.

“I think we have a big chance this season. I'm confident that we gonna make it with the last six games remaining. We have four games at home and then two away so that's a plus for us. If we win our four home games then we will be there."
