Baroka FC captain Letladi Madubanya has described Nedbank Cup opponents Kaizer Chiefs as “a good cup playing team”.
Bakgaga will face Amakhosi in the Ke Yona quarter-finals at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (20h15).
Chiefs have not won a trophy since coach Steve Komphela took over from current Bafana Bafana tactician Stuart Baxter, but Madubanya feels they are not easy to come up against in cup competitions.
“We are playing against a good team, a good cup playing team. We’ve lost the past game, but it’s going to be a different ball game. We respect Chiefs and their players, but hopefully we will be the victors on the day,” Madubanya says.
“It’s always good playing against Kaizer Chiefs, but it’s not the only team in the PSL. We still have six more games to go [in the league]. It’s going to be a good game and hopefully the better team wins on the day.”
Baroka have not lost since interim boss Macdonald Makhubedu took over from Kgoloko Thobejane, who was axed by the club for allegedly drinking on the job.
“It’s a confidence booster that we have managed to go six games without a loss. It’s good for the team, it’s good for the players who have been playing week in and out,” the former Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder says.
