Free State Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena has confirmed that midfielder Nhlanhla Vilakazi has signed a pre-contract with AmaZulu.

Vilakazi’s contract with Ea Lla Koto is set to expire in June and Usuthu have pounced on the experienced midfielder, who has played a key role in the centre of park for the club this season.

The 31-year-old joined Ea Lia Koto in the second half of the 2015/16 season after he parted ways with Maritzburg United in the previous campaign.

Mokoena says he’s aware that Vilakazi is joining AmaZulu.

“Yes I’m aware he has signed a pre-contract with AmaZulu,” Mokoena tells

“To be honest I’m not frustrated at all. You must know this is the name of the game and I’ve also signed a few players on pre-contracts and I’ll make an announcement when the time is right.

“When you are in this game you must understand that when the window opens and closes there’s player movements. That is the nature of the game and you can’t take it personally and be frustrated.

“We’ve already made plans and we saw the signs coming long time ago and I had an idea that Nhlanhla Vilakazi would not renew his contract and I’ve made peace with that.

“So I’m very comfortable and I can only wish him well.”

Mokoena says the club tried to convince Vilakazi to extend his contract but the player’s mind was already made up.

“We had talks and they fell apart and we also understood that he was looking for employment,” Mokoena says.

The former Ajax Cape Town midfielder has featured in 21 matches this season, with the solitary goal he scored against Mamelodi Sundowns on September 11.
