Leonardo Castro urges focus and determination ahead of Kaizer Chiefs' Nedbank Cup quarterfinal

Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro has urged his teammates to show focus and determination in their upcoming Nedbank Cup quarterfinal.

Chiefs will face familiar foes Baroka in the last-eight at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.

The two sides last met two months ago when Amakhosi picked up their very first victory over Bakgaga in five attempts, with Castro scoring on debut to hand his side the three points in a league clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

This time around stakes are higher, with just three games seperating both sides from the coveted trophy that not only comes with prize money of R7-million but also a place in the next CAF Confederation Cup campaign kicking off later this year.

For the Soweto side, however, it is the much sought after trophy that they're after, having failed to deliver any silverware to the club's base in almost three years.

The Colombian frontman, who arrived at Naturena at the end of December from Mamelodi Sundowns, is already well aware of the task at hand as he looks to influence the fortunes of Steve Komphela's outfit.

“We need to fight if we want to reach the semi-final. We need to be ready from the moment that the referee blows the whistle to kick-off the game,” Castro told his club's website.

“We want to score early. Baroka always approach their games with a ‘do-or-die’ attitude, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"They can’t be underestimated. This means that we must be focussed from the start and take care of business with a sound game plan and a determination to win.

“We need to look forward as well. The Nedbank Cup is an opportunity to win a trophy this season.”

The much-anticipated clash is scheduled to kick-off at 20h15.
