Mohammed Anas wants Free State Stars to avoid Nedbank Cup upset

Posted: 27 March 2018 Time: 11:45

Free State Stars striker Mohammed Anas says the team will make sure they do not suffer the same fate as fellow PSL sides Polokwane City and AmaZulu FC.

Both Rise and Shine and Usuthu were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by National First Division side Ubuntu Cape Town, who host Ea Lla Koto in the quarterfinals at Athlone Stadium on Saturday (15h30).

Ubuntu needed a penalty shootout on home soil to overcome City in the last 32, then stunned AmaZulu in Durban with a 3-2 victory in the previous round of the competition.

Stars, though, will be Ubuntu’s toughest test yet, but Anas has stressed the importance of not underestimating this season’s giant killers.

"They have knocked out two PSL teams, but we are ready for them because this is not a game you must take lightly. We must work very hard," says Anas, who wants Ea Lla Koto to win some silverware to end what has been an impressive campaign on a high.

"We are looking forward to this game. Also as players we want something for the club, we want to achieve something also for ourselves, you know. So we need to be ready for us not to end up like the other PSL teams."

The Ghanaian believes they have done sufficient homework on their opponents.

"We've been watching their games and we got a coach [Luc Eymael] that understands football. We only need to listen to the coach's planning and how he wants us to approach the game.

"You know we are taking it one game at a time. It's God who is going to decide for us."
