Highlands Park forward Peter Shalulile prioritises promotion over golden boot award

Posted: 25 March 2018 Time: 12:00

Highlands Park dangerman Peter Shalulile says although he is solely focused on winning promotion with the club, he would gladly welcome the National First Division golden boot award.

The Namibian international, who turns 25-on Friday, has scored 11 goals this season and is one goal behind the league’s leading marksman Mwape Musonda of Black Leopards.

"All this time I didn't even look at the scorers' chart. I didn't notice that I'm there among the leading scorers. All the focus has been to get the team promoted," Shalulile tells KickOff.com.

"I would be very excited if I become the top scorer, if it's my time then I will grab it. I would like to have this achievement, but it’s more important to get promoted. I always say God's timing is the best you know, so if it is meant to be mine I will grab it. But my first responsibility is to get the team promoted."

Highlands, who were relegated from the top flight last season, are 15 points clear at the top of the table with six matches to play. It’s hard to see anyone winning automatic promotion ahead of them.

Shalulile says they will use the remaining matches to prepare for the PSL next season.

"The games are not yet finished, we need to finish these remaining games and prepare for next season. I have been dreaming to play in the PSL again, and finally, we could get a second chance.

“It's unfortunate that we had to come back [to the NFD], but now that we are going back I believe that hard work in the PSL will make us stay there.

Other First Division strikers on 11 goals are Mpho Erasmus (Mthatha Bucks), Nkosingiphile Phewa (Real Kings), Modi Mokoena (Super Eagles) and Ranga Chivaviro (Ubuntu Cape Town).
