Young Bafana Bafana starlet Lebogang Mothiba was elated after scoring his first national team on debut, and hopes there’ll be more to come in future.
The 22-year-old was handed his first Bafana start in South Africa’s Four Nations clash against Angola on Wednesday, netting his side’s equaliser shortly after half-time to make it 1-1, in a match Bafana would eventually win 7-6 on penalties.
And the young Lille forward was well-pleased following his debut goal as he eyes many more in the national team shirt.
“The game was very difficult because Angola is a very good side with young players who are quick and strong, but I am very happy to have scored my first goal with the national team,” the youngster told KickOff.com. “And I hope there’s more to come.”
Bafana will now take on Zambia in Saturday’s final following the host’s victory over Zimbabwe, with Mothiba enjoying his time in camp amongst his new teammates.
“The preparations for the Zambia game are going very well,” he said. “I’m communicating even more with the players and our relationship is getting better each day.”
After doing duty for Bafana, Mothiba will head back to France as he looks to lead his side out of their relegation woes, with Lille sitting 19th in Ligue 1, one point behind safety with eight matches left in the campaign.
Mothiba has two goals in six starts for his club, having returned in January from a loan spell at Valenciennes, where he netted eight goals in 20 appearances for the Ligue II side.
