Bafana Bafana forward Phakamani Mahlambi has pledged to make the country proud at the four-nations tournament in Zambia.

Bafana departed for Ndola on Tuesday morning ahead of their opening clash against Angola on Wednesday afternoon (15h00).

The Al Ahly rising star, who has managed one goal and five assists in his maiden Egyptian Premier League season, is confident the squad can overcome the challenge despite stringent time constraints.

“We haven’t had a lot of preparation time but with the squad that we have, we can definitely put up a good fight," Mahlambi told the SAFA website.

"The energy in camp is very positive and everyone is in high spirits. Everyone is looking forward to playing and I am glad that the team has gelled well together."

The winner between Bafana and the Sable Antelopes will face either hosts Chipolopolo or Zimbabwe's Warriors, depedning on their result, on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-year-old former Bidvest Wits attacker is well aware of the expectations of the millions back home, and vows to make the country proud.

"Representing the national team is a serious task and everyone is aware of the importance of making the nation proud," he added.

"We want to assure the nation that we will give it our all in the tournament.”
