Bafana Bafana winger Aubrey Modiba says he is not going to relax just because he was worked with senior national team coach Stuart Baxter at SuperSport United in the past.
Modiba, who is SuperSport’s top scorer with seven goals in all competitions this season, has been included in Baxter’s squad for the upcoming four nations tournament in Zambia.
Bafana will play Angola tomorrow at 15h00 and hosts Zambia will play Zimbabwe in the other match at 18h00. There will be a third place play-off match on Saturday, the same day of the final.
Despite SuperSport struggling for form over the last four months, Modiba has managed to do well and has now earned himself a spot in the side.
“Everyone dreams of representing the country and I am happy that I am on the list of players that will be competing in Zambia,” Modiba tells KickOff.com.
“I have been working hard for that. I have worked with coach Stuart Baxter at SuperSport, so I already know what to expect. I have to work hard, but I know his philosophy and I know he is a winner, so he will keep on pushing us.”
Bafana are using the matches to prepare for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers later this year. The side missed out on the last Afcon in Gabon and are determined to qualify for next year’s edition in Cameroon.
“These are good games to help us prepare. Zimbabwe have good players, Zambia have good players and they have won the Afcon before. Angola are also a good side,” Modiba says.
“These games are going to prepare us mentally and physically and it will help us to know one another because we are from different clubs. These are the kind of games we need to take seriously so that we win the tournament.”
