Polokwane City coach Bernard Molekwa is grateful that has club has kept its faith in him, despite a difficult campaign for Rise and Shine.

City dropped to 13th place on the Absa Premiership standings after their 2-1 defeat to Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.

They are just three points ahead of second from bottom Ajax Cape Town, who occupy the play-off position.

Molekwa was given a chance to take up the role as head coach after City parted ways with Luc Eymael, who inspired the club to its first ever top eight finish last term.

The current campaign, however, has been a difficult one for Molekwa and his players who have registered just five wins in 24 matches. Rise and Shine have conceded 29 goals – only Baroka FC (30) and bottom of the table Platinum Stars (32) have conceded more.

Many clubs in City’s situation would have fired their coaches, but chairman Johnny Mogaladi has been patient with a man that has shown that he has what it takes to coach in the big league.

Molekwa very happy that the management has kept faith in him and he believes their continued support with see the club maintaining its top flight status.

“I think so far so good, although we are not where we wanted to be.

“I think this season has had its ups and downs, but for me personally I appreciate the opportunity the club gave me.

“As much as we are not where we wanted to be, they [management] had faith in me, they’re supporting me. I still believe with their support we will achieve our objectives of making sure that the team remains in the PSL.”

Molekwa’s first game in charge of club was against Mamelodi Sundowns away which ended in the goalless draw on March 14, 2017. Since then he has been in charge of 40 games, winnig 12, losing 14 and drawing 14.
