Ryan Moon does not Kaizer Chiefs to worry about other teams in the race for the title

Posted: 17 March 2018 Time: 13:00

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ryan Moon has called on his teammates to focus on their own race and not worry about teams above or below them.

Amakhosi will be returning their attention to the Absa Premiership as they maintain belief that catching up to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns is still possible.

Having come off a disappointing defeat to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in their previous league game, which now sees them eight points off the pace, Moon has stressed the importance of bouncing back when they host AmaZulu on Saturday evening.

“We’ve got to shift our focus from the cup game to AmaZulu, who are always a tough team, especially when they come up against the big teams, they really lift their game,” said Moon.

“We’re definitely looking forward to the game, and it will be a crucial three points as we try and come back from our loss against Orlando Pirates.
“We’ve got to run our own race. We just have to take it one game at a time and it’s important that we collect these three points on the weekend.”

Apart from the Brazilians being eight points ahead, Chiefs will also have to depend on the Buccaneers, Free State Stars and Maritzburg United to drop points if they are to reach the summit of the table.

Moon believes anything can still happen, but stresses that their attention should be solely on stringing together positive results In their remaining seven fixtures.

“The belief will always be there. This is football, it’s a crazy sport and we all know anything can happen. I think it’s just for us to run our own race and continue working hard to get where we want to be,” he added.

“By running our own race, I mean that we don’t have to go out and put unnecessary pressure on ourselves, looking above or below us.

“I mean, we need to focus on getting ourselves right at the moment, look at the game ahead of us against AmaZulu and not worry whether Sundowns or Pirates lose.

“It’s now about us, we need to focus on us, get our three points and then move on to the next game.”
