Tsepo Masilela says Kaizer Chiefs need to give it their all in the Nedbank Cup

Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has understandably exercised some caution after they were drawn against Baroka FC in the quarterfinals of the lucrative Nedbank Cup.

Amakhosi broke their winless run against Bakgaga in January, beating them by 2-1 as Leonardo Castro scored on debut for the Soweto giants.

Baroka in turn have won two of these matches - the famous one obviously being their 2-1 victory at the very same stage of this competition back in 2011 when they were still competing in the then Vodacom League, while three matches ended in a draw.

“The draw is a tough one, you know it’s a cup competition – one has to go out and one goes through to the next round. Hopefully Kaizer Chiefs will make it through to the semi-finals,” Masilela told reporters.

“It’s the last trophy on offer so we want give it our best shot.”

Masilela has downplayed the fact that the pressure is mounting due to their two-and-a-half-year run without silverware

“Yeah, pressure is always there. We haven’t won trophies but still, if you win the league you are under pressure to defend it, if you win any cup competition you are under pressure to defend it. So, pressure is always there,” the former Getafe player stated.

Masilela has, however, pointed out that the current trophy drought under Steve Komphela feels a bit “weird” after winning two league titles in three years with former coach Stuart Baxter at the helm.

“Yeah, I can say it’s a bit weird, you know. Once you win and you get that feeling, that taste, you know. You want it over and over again.

“So, it’s kind of weird but it happens in football it happens to the best, you know. You just have to soldier on and hopefully we can get one or two at the end of the season," the former Bafana Bafana defender concluded.
