Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi is more than capable of overseeing tonight's Nedbank Cup last-16 tie with third-tier minnows EC Bees, according to defender Wayne Arendse.
Mngqithi, who steered Golden Arrows to MTN8 glory in 2009, has been handed the reins as Pitso Mosimane is currently attending a CAF seminar in Rabat, Morocco. He is due back in the country on Thursday.
Mngqithi was also at the helm when Mosimane was suspended for the last-32 win over Cape Town All Stars and 1-1 league draw with Free State Stars.
“All congrats to the coach for being invited for this course to get a Pro License and take his career to the next level,” Arendse told his club's website.
“We are professional enough to do the job without him on the bench. We know what we need to do.
“Coach Manqoba has been there. He’s been on the bench without the coach before and he did the job. Everyone knows what to do.”
Arendse has respect for their unheralded opponents, but says his side have to swiftly stamp their authority when the action starts at 19h30 at Loftus Versfeld.
“It’s up to us to kill the game against EC Bees as soon as possible so that the coach can start focusing on the match on the weekend. I don’t think that will hinder us in a way.”
The veteran centre-back added: “They will come out all guns blazing and will run all over the place. We have to be calm, show our experience and show why we are a PSL team.”
The Brazilians are without suspended pair Tiyani Mabunda and Sibusiso Vilakazi.
