Nigeria boss Gernot Rohr 'not afraid' of Argentina star Lionel Messi

Posted: 12 March 2018 Time: 20:00

Nigeria technical advisor Gernot Rohr revealed how the Super Eagles feel about facing five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

With only a couple of months remaining before the global showpiece kicks off in Russia, preparations amongst the football countries are beginning to take place.

And after the West-African country faced Argentina in 2010 and 2014, Rohr claims they don't fear the FC Barcelona club-record goalscorer anymore.

"We know he [Messi] is one of the best players in the world but we are not worried about anybody because we have a good team," Rohr told The Punch. "The game against Argentina will be a tough one and it will be very interesting going into the group’s last games.

"Perhaps we don't have players we had in the 1990s - when only one player could make the difference. But now, we have a young team playing good and quality football, not only one or two quality players who can make the difference."

Nigeria will face off with Argentina in the last Group D fixture at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg on June 26, 2018.
