Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse is hoping to finish the season strong

Posted: 11 March 2018 Time: 12:00

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse is delighted to be back on the pitch having spent a big chunk of this season as a fringe player.

Arendse has played in Sundowns’ last two matches against AmaZulu and Rayon Sports and is hoping he can finish the domestic season strong by helping the team win both the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup titles.

The match against Usuthu, which Sundowns won 3-1, was Arendse’s first start in 2018 and he got another opportunity to prove that he still has a lot to offer in the Brazilians’ goalless draw with Rayon in the CAF Champions League.

The former Santos centre-back, who has made 14 appearances in all competitions this campaign, has been given an opportunity to play ahead of Motjeka Madisha, and he received praise from coach Pitso Mosimane for keeping Rayon’s attackers at bay.

“Obviously it’s good being on the pitch, getting some minutes under the belt. Coming in against AmaZulu and we won, and then I played in the Champions League too,” Arendse tells

“I want to try end the season with as much games as possible and not just to get minutes under the belt, but to get a title as well. So it’s going to be crucial for me and the team.”

Arendse knows what it takes to win titles, so his experience at this stage of the season will come in handy for log leaders Sundowns, who play against ABC Motsepe League side EC Bees in the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Tuesday.
