Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids continues to back Mamelodi Sundowns for Absa Premiership title despite Orlando Pirates' resurgence

Posted: 10 March 2018 Time: 08:00

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids says Orlando Pirates have been transformed under Milutin Sredojevic but he has tipped Mamelodi Sundowns as hot favourites to win the Absa Premiership this season.

Sundowns are four points clear of closest rivals Pirates at the title race with seven matches left.

Free State Stars, Maritzburg, Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City are also in the title conversation, with eight points separating first from fifth.

"It [the title race] is in Sundowns' hands," Davids says.

"They have a four-point lead, it's for them to lose the league.

"Pirates are in a fantastic situation at the moment. They have transformed the team, coaches Rhulani [Mokwena, assistant coach] and 'Micho' [Sredojevic] but I think Sundowns have the experience and the know-how to win the league

"It's for them to lose the league," he reiterates.

Downs' next league assignment is against Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld on April 4, while Bucs will first visit Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on March 17.
