Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku reveals why he is undroppable under manager Jose Mourinho

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku claims manager Jose Mourinho rates him as the 'sergeant' of the team and revealed why he is constantly selected for the starting XI.

The much-maligned Belgian striker has returned to form of late with five goals in his last six games across all competitions and is showing signs of leadership in his lone-striker role with the Red Devils.

His display in the 2-1 victory against his former club Chelsea last month particularly drew plaudits, convincing Mourinho to keep faith in him amongst the Portuguese tacticians' plethora of attacking options with the Premier League giants.

"It has been really good, [because] I think he knows I have like that soldier mentality," the 24-year-old told Sky Sports. "I think the work rate that I am delivering to the team is a lot.

"I think the manager, in his mind, thinks that I am like his sergeant on the pitch, and that's strange for a striker because normally, it's always the midfielders. But he knows that he can count on me whenever and he knows that I will always put the team first, ahead of myself.

"I always wanted to chase trophies and I always put that in front of my personal objectives. He knows that, and I think that's the reason why I'm playing all the time."
