Orlando Pirates have provided an update on the recovery of striker Thabiso Kutumela as well as defender Diamond Thopola.
Kutumela last featured for the Buccaneers against Maritzburg United, scoring the opener in their 2-1 Absa Premiership win at the start of February.
The 24-year-old then suffered an ankle injury during training and was forced to undergo surgery, missing the team's next two encounters.
Now, the Pirates medical team have confirmed the diminutive forward's procedure was a success and he is on the path to recovery.
'Thabiso Kutumela has begun his long journey to full recovery after undergoing a successful ankle surgery two weeks ago,' reads a statement on the club's website.
'The 24-year old has started physiotherapy, albeit at light intensity as he is gradually introduced to strengthening work.'
Recently Bucs assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena suspected that Kutumela would miss the rest of the season, at the time saying it comes as a huge loss given his recent form.
"Kutumela, I think, when we listen to the medical department, we can rule him out for the rest of the season," commented Mokwena.
“It’s a little bit unfortunate because he was really, really playing well and it’s an unfortunate loss for us."
Meanwhile, Thopola, who has been sidelined through a groin strain, is set to return to full training on Monday.
The 27-year-old right-back has made just one appearance for his new club since arriving from Chippa United in January.
