Rayon Sports FC coach Ivan Minneart feels his side need a result at home in their CAF Champions League qualifier against Mamelodi Sundowns, admitting a victory in Pretoria will be difficult to achieve.
The reigning Rwandan National Soccer champions narrowly beat Burundi’s LLB Academic 2-1 in the preliminary round qualifiers to set up a first round tie against Masandawana, who received a bye into this stage of the competition.
And Rayon coach Minneart, who has previously coached at National First Division club Black Leopards, knows playing the Tshwane outfit will provide a tough test over the two legs, and hopes a positive result at home will give them the advantage ahead of the second leg in South Africa’s capital later this month.
“We are playing against a strong opponent, but, we are ready,” he is quoted as saying in the Rwandan press. “We are a strong team especially in front of club supporters. It is important that we make the most out of home advantage and win the first-leg match, otherwise, we will have a tough time in South Africa.”
Mineart is hoping a jubilant home crowd will aid his cause.
“We need to win the first leg,” he said. “We need the support of home fans, I appeal to our fans and Rwandans at large to come and support the boys.”
Kick-off at the Stade Amahoro is set for 18h00, with the second leg in South Africa scheduled to take place on March 18.
