Teboho Moloi happy to take any role offered to him following Chippa United exit

Posted: 7 March 2018 Time: 10:45

Teboho Moloi says he is not obsessed with positions and would not have a problem returning to work as an assistant coach, just like Manqoba Mngqithi did.

Moloi parted ways with Chippa United as their head coach on Saturday, just a few months after winning the coach of the month award for November.

Asked if he would go back to being an assistant coach, Moloi downplayed the various titles and takes inspiration from current Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Mnqithi, who has done a sterling job at Chloorkop since leaving the head coach job at Golden Arrows.

"I don't know what will come. Whatever comes I'll take. I mean, you look at one of the best diski coaches in the country - Manqoba Mnqithi," he pointed out. "He won the MTN8 by 6-0 [in 2009], and from there he went on to become an assistant coach [at Sundowns], whereby he's contributing immensely.

"I've always said, this 'assistant', 'head', 'interim', 'what-coach' is only a title. If the person you work for or with; if you and him can get the desired results, it makes little difference.

"When I worked with Roger de Sa, I didn't feel like an assistant, I was treated like a coach. I was contributing and I was free to express myself.

"If you ask me if I want to be an assistant or head coach, I look at Manqoba - a man who did so much for Arrows and if he could go and be part of a successful technical team, who am I?

"He's someone who has walked this road long before me. So, whatever position comes my way, as long as I'll be contributing every day of my life, it's okay."

Rumours have since surfaced that 'Tebza' is being lined up to join the Brazilians' technical team, taking up the vacant position left by Rhulani Mokwena, who is now at Pirates.

"To be honest, who wouldn't want to work for Sundowns? There's no coach who doesn't want to work for Sundowns, be it as a head coach, assistant coach, scout, development coach. Everyone wants to be in an environment where there's happiness," he responded.
