Fiorentina have announced their decision to retire the number 13 shirt form by former captain Davide Astori after his sudden passing on Sunday morning.

Astori suffered an apparent heart attack in his sleep and was found in his bed in the hotel room, prior to La Viola's Serie A fixture with Udinese on Sunday.

His former club Cagliari, for whom he played 174 games over six seasons, has also decided to honour the former Italy international with the same gesture.

"In honour of his memory and to make the recollections of Davide Astori indelible, ACF Fiorentina and Cagliari Calcio have decided mutually to retire the shirt with the number 13," the club revealed on their official Twitter account.
