Liberia President and former Ballon d'Or winner George Weah wants the Nigeria national football team to avoid unnecessary controversy ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Nigeria will travel to Russia in June this year as one of five representatives of the African continent, boasting a highly-rated squad of established European based stars.
However, the Super Eagles previous international and continental campaigns has often been plagued by alleged mismanagement, with unpaid bonuses and unfulfilled promises.
During the 2014 edition in Brazil, members of the national team refused to train over the alleged R283m unpaid bonus for qualifying for the global showpiece.
"I have played with great Nigerian players, I played against them. Now you have a new generation, the fact that they qualified is a good thing for Nigeria," Weah told reporters, as quoted by AS.
"I hope they'll prepare very early because they're going to represent Africa and we'll be there to watch them, for them to bring the trophy for the first time if it's possible."
"So, let the players not have an excuse, support them and bring back the cup."
