Banyana Banyana were denied a chance to compete for the bronze medal at the Cyprus Cup after playing to a goalless draw with Korea DPR in their final Group C match.
Banyana, who drew 0-0 with Slovakia and beat Hungary 1-0 in their previous games, finished second in the pool on five points, two behind the leaders Korea DPR.
The result ended Banyana's chances of challenging for third spot and they will instead play for position five or six on Wednesday against a yet to be identified opponent. Banyana's highest finish in the tournament was sixth in their maiden campaign in 2009.
The South Africans had just one shot on target throughout the match, while their opponents had three. This is something head coach Desiree Ellis will be keen to work on going forward, to ensure that the team creates and converts in front of goal.
Ellis, meanwhile, made changes to her starting line-up for the match against Korea at the Stadio Tasos Markos in Paralimni,
Kaylin Swart started in goal after Andile Dlamini played in the goalless draw against Slovakia and Roxanne Barker was in between the sticks for the victory over Hungary.
Regina Moholola came in at right-back in her first match in the tournament, while the experienced and versatile Leandra Smeda returned to the line-up to complete the back four.
