Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone reflects on LaLiga defeat to FC Barcelona

Posted: 5 March 2018 Time: 09:28

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone says individual brilliance is all that separated his side with FC Barcelona in their top-of-the-table clash at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

Lionel Messi's 600th career goal for club and country in the 26th minute proved to be the only goal during the LaLiga encounter and after the game, Simeone insinuated that the title race is all but over.

With 11 games remaining in the 2017/18 campaign, the unbeaten Blaugrana hold an eight-point lead over second-placed Atleti thanks to Messi's wonderfully taken free-kick.

"It seems pretty unlikely that Barcelona will lose three games but we'll go on competing," Simeone said, as quoted via AS. "He [Messi] is a special player.

"As the game was so close if he had put on an Atlético shirt we would have won."
