Manchester City continued their march towards the Premier League title with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad on Sunday.
Chelsea came without the services of Ngolo Kante, with Danny Drinkwater preferred ahead of the hard-tackling Frenchman.
The Citizens, who are edging closer to the title, pulled out their big guns after successive 3-0 hammerings of Arsenal in the last week.
It was all City in the opening stages, with Cesar Azipilicueta stretching himself to clear Kevin De Bruyne’s incoming delivery through the middle.
Cesc Fabregas then laid a pass with a hope of finding Eden Hazard but Ederson came quickly off his line to clear the danger.
Leroy Sane dribbled past a number of players out wide and picked out Bernardo Silva who curled his effort over the top.
Chelsea was forced into desperate defending, where Azpilicueta cleared Sane’s effort off the line before Thibaut Courtois was able to pick up the loose ball.
Bernardo Silva got his anticipation horribly wrong when Sane’s pass reached him in space inside the box, but he curled the attempt wide after 33 minutes.
The Portuguese international made no mistake at the start of the second half by securing the opening strike on the half-volley for his second goal in as many matches.
They continued their dominance, with the Blues providing no real meaningful challenge as De Bruyne looked to make it two with a shot from range but went over the top.
The visitors made the game’s first change with Olivier Giroud replacing Willian after 78 minutes, while another change ensued with Emerson taking the spot of Pedro minutes later.
The league leaders responded with their first change in Gabriel Jesus who took the role of Sergio Aguero six minutes before time as they earned their seventh 17th consecutive home win.
