Polokwane net late to rescue a point

Posted: 4 March 2018 Time: 12:27

Polokwane City scored a stunning late equaliser to force a 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership.

Rise and Shine were looking to come out of the bottom-two slots and rolled out the big guns in Jabulani Maluleke and Rodney Ramagalela to help them in that regard.

Maluleke whipped in a cross from the right from a free-kick but Sammy Seabi’s header failed to find the target as it went over the bar.

Danny Venter replied at the other end with a left-footed shot from a free-kick that failed to hit the target.

Shots continued to come in from both sides, but neither of them were unable to find the breakthrough towards the half an hour mark.

Arrows looked more eager to break the deadlock, and Venter took up space on the far side before cutting into the box to shoot at George Chigova who does well to fall on the ball and stop it.

City looked for a quick goal in the second half, but the Arrows defence was quickly alert to avert any incoming danger from them.

Instead, it was the KZN side who first went ahead after Lerato Lamola found himself in the box from a counterattack to slot home the opener from Velemseni Ndwandwe’s pass.

The hosts find the equalizer after substitute Walter Musona capitalized on a blunder from Maximilian Mbaeva.

Abafana Besthende, looking for back-to-back wins, regained the lead when Siphelele Magubane find the target from range after curling around the defence to beat Chigova in the 64th minute.

Countless searches for the equaliser came to an end, with Puleng Tlolane coming to the part with a stunning leveler at the death to spare their blushes.
