The forgotten-man of Nigerian football Chinedu Obasi has signed for an English side as he looks to revive his once promising career.

The 18-time capped Super Eagles forward has signed a short-term deal with Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers after a successful trial under head coach Phil Parkinson.

"Obasi scored the winner in an Under-23s clash with Burnley at Macron Stadium and now joins Phil Parkinson’s side until the end of the season," read a statement on the club's official website.

After bursting onto the scene with the senior national team 13 years ago, the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship runner-up and 2008 Olympic silver medalist was touted as the next superstar from the West African country.

Obasi was part of the promising TSG Hoffenheim side that burst onto the Bundesliga scene in the 2008/09 season as a newly-promoted side who were crowned winter Champions over Bayern Munich.

After five seasons with the Die Kraichgauer a £3.6m (R60m) move to domestic rivals Schalke followed, where Obasi's career has been on a downward spiral ever since. Injuries blighted the career of the 31-year-old, who last plied his trade in the Swedish top-flight with 2017 Allsvenskan runners-up AIK.

However, Obasi will now be keen to prove himself in the English second-tier by firing 19th placed Trotters further up the table.
