SuperSport United and Maritzburg United settled for an unpleasant 0-0 draw in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night.
United started life without Eric Tinkler, who departed on Friday following a string of poor results, but they still came out strong.
Teboho Mokoena and Aubrey Modiba sliced two shots from outside the box over the top amidst a body of defender surrounding them.
They continued searching for the opener, and came close again after Reneilwe Letsholonyane turned his man on the edge of the box only to scuff the effort.
It was all Matsatsantsa, with Mokoena firing a half-volley on the turn wide of goal. Evans Rusike was looking to put one over his former club but drew a good save from Richard Ofori.
With halftime approaching, they continued to pile the pressure on the visitors but were continually undone by dismal finishing.
Rusike continued with his menacing act and forced another fine save from Ofori with a close range shot five minutes to the break.
The Team of Choice struck the underside of the crossbar from a corner by Deolin Mekoa which found the head of Mohau Mokate in added time.
Ofori continued to be a nuisance in the second half, denying Modiba and Mokoena respectively to keep the score goalless.
The Ghanaian stopped another goal-bound effort from Mokoena with a point-blank save from inside the box.
Despite their best efforts to bombard the goal of Ofori, the home side couldn’t find the breakthrough and settled for a point that elevates the Team of Choice to third spot.
