Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids refuses to get caught up with title talk

Posted: 3 March 2018 Time: 08:00

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids refuses to get caught up in talk his team are title contenders, saying "the log lies".

Maritzburg could rise to second behind Mamelodi Sundowns on the table if the Soweto Derby delivers a favourable result this afternoon and the Team of Choice beat SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium in the evening.

And while SuperSport are struggling, Davids points out the Tshwane giants won the reverse tie 1-0 in January and beat them 3-1 across two legs in the MTN8 quarter-finals last year.

“We face a SuperSport side who have beaten us twice already this season; here at home 2-0 in the second leg semi-final where we had the advantage of the goal.

"So it’s going to be tough game for us to go there to try and get the points," said Davids, whose side has won their last three games in all competitions.

“We have to keep calm and the players can’t get over excited and see the log because the log lies. We just have to keep calm, keep going and take it like that.”

Maritzburg, who have eight games left, has been boosted by the return from suspension of midfielder Lebohang Maboe.

Kick-off is at 18h00.
