Johnson: The referee spoiled the game

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson bemoaned the performance of the referee in their 3-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday evening.

A brace from Sibusiso Vilakazi and a penalty from Ricardo Nascimento guided the Brazilians to a win in Durban.

The talking point came from Vilakazi's goal, with replays showing Themba Zwane was in offside position in the build up.

“It’s hard, I thought we had a penalty shout in the first half. We could have been 1-0 up before they scored their goal. At 1-1 I thought both teams were going at each other and they scored the second goal but you have to give them credit for the quality they have in their team,” Johnson told SuperSport TV.

“But then, the man in the middle spoiled the game not only for me but for the spectators who come here and paid good money to watch the game. He spoiled the game and after that I think the game went out of the window.

“We tried to press them and enter their final third but we were not clinical enough. The decision on the third goal blew the whole game out of the window. It was just not good enough, completely unacceptable.”

The former Platinum Stars coach was asked what did he say to the referees when the match was halted and they were all in the pitch.

“I didn’t speak to them because I felt they had made their decision. What can you do? You do nothing. If they reverse their decision even worse. So let the game continue. Up until the 20th minute we were in it and somebody makes a mistake and throws the game out of the window and we had to stop for seven or ten minutes and that cools the players off and they don’t feel right and after that everything that comes your way is offside. What can you do?," he added.
