Absa Premiership match report Cape Town City v Chippa United 02 March 2018

Posted: 2 March 2018 Time: 18:34

Cape Town City returned to winning ways with two first-half goals earning them a 2-0 win over Chippa United in the Absa Premiership.

City were eager to end the rot that had seen them lose four league matches on the bounce, but they were always going to be up against it with the visit of a tough Chippa outfit.

After a slow start where they found it tough to grow into the game with a few attempts at goal, City eventually drew first blood with a stunning strike from Ayanda Patosi in the 26th minute.

Chippa threatened to draw level with a free-kick on the edge of the box by Paseka Mako after a foul by Sage Stephens, but it went over the top.

The Citizens made them pay on the stroke of half-time when Lyle Lakay curled in a free-kick from the right that gave Daniel Akpeyi no chance.

Benni McCarthy’s side kept their firm control on the game at the start of the second period and created a few telling moments.

Teko Modise played in Judas Moseamedi after going down the middle, but the forward failed to beat Akpeyi after 60 minutes.

McCarthy’s refreshed the squad with the change of the goal-scorer for the exciting Craig Martin in the 64th minute.

The second change came at the midway point, with Shaun Roberts replacing Surprise Ralani, as the game drifted at either end of the scale.

Mxolisi Machupu was looking for two goals in two with a header from a Fares Hachi free-kick but his effort struck the woodwork with Stephens well beaten.
